The Paul Bunyan Trail runs along the railroad lines originally built in 1893 by the Burlington Northern Railroad. When the railroad abandoned this line the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources purchased it and this mighty trail was born.
Passing through Downtown Nisswa, easy parking is available in town or at the trailside parking lot by the Dairy Queen. Rolling along many lakes passing through the silent woods you will enjoy this ribbon of beauty. The level nature of the Paul Bunyan Trail makes for a relaxing ride for all ages.
Bicycle and skate rentals are available in Nisswa, making an afternoon adventure a simple option!
Heading south from Nisswa will take you to the Lake Hubert Depot, then along the shore of Lake Hubert To Merrifield on the shores of North Long Lake. A trip north passes along the Cullen Lakes to the towns of Nisswa, Jenkins, and Pine River.
The railroad was the main transportation to many of these towns, and you can enjoy where the trail takes you today! Stop and try some hometown cooking or a pop or ice cream cone along the way. Check out the many souvenir and gift shops, or just stop along the trail and enjoy the view.
